Motown

The Motown music is a musical genre that blends pop music with sounds of Rhythms and Blues. A range of electric and acoustic instruments are used to play this kind of music; mostly, percussion instruments and distinctive vocals are used. Gospel music also has strong vocals, and. In this respect, the Motown music resembles the Gospel music, along with a blend of tambourine, bass guitar and drums. The place where this form of soul music originated in the late 1950’s was Detroit, the motor city, hence the name ‘Motown’.
Today, Motown is the largest and the most successful record company in the USA. Some of the music groups and singers who started out on this Motown label are The Four Topp, The Supremes, The Miracles; and among the singers- Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and others. Although it was the 1960’s soul music that held and still hold the slightly older generation spellbound, it was the 80’s soul music that brought forth the talent and capabilities of many new singers, song-writers and musicians to the fore. Electronic musical instruments and synthesizers added to the terrific sound effects and created a new kind of artistic furore in the world and took the world by storm and had everyone dancing to it enthusiastically.
