Evoluce Win&I brings Kinect gesture controls to Windows 7

We’ve been looking at some pretty cool Kinect and Windows interactions for a while now, but we were hoping that the release of an official SDK would lead to even more coolness. Evoluce has stepped up, and is now offering Win&I — a full-featured gesture control system for Windows 7.

The company claims that a range of up to four meters is supported, which should be perfect for just about any home theater setting. In the video embedded after the break, you can see an Evoluce demonstrator flip through a photo album, pan through a map, rearrange application windows, browse the Web, and control media playback. Two versions of Win&I are offered — the home version goes for about 20 Euros, the business version for 40.

Anyone else having fun pretending his stance is a little “Iron Man”? We’re tempted to put a repulsor on that hand.

Sub-$100 Android Tablet Coming To Sprint This Weekend

Our very own Gordon Ung summed success in the tech world pretty succinctly in this month’s issue: if you want to make your product a hit, it helps to make it cheap. Looks like Chinese manufacturer ZTE was paying attention. This Super Bowl Sunday, the company is releasing a new 7-inch Android Honeycomb tablet — the ZTE Optik — with pretty decent specs and a $100 price tag that undercuts the Kindle Fire by half.

There’s a catch, of course. To get that dirt-cheap price, you’ll need to sign up for a 2-year data plan with Sprint, whose tablet data options start at $20 for 1GB/mo. (Wha…?!) Otherwise, you’ll need to plunk down $350 in upfront cash to go plan-free.

So what’s that $100-plus-data-fee get you? Here’s the specs ZTE owned up to in its press release:

5MP rear/2MP front facing cameras
16GB hard drive
1.2GHz Snapdragon CPU
1GB Ram

Notably missing: 4G support. Yep, despite the fact that ZTE sounds curiously close to LTE, this bad-boy’s 3G CDMA only. Could its low contract price woo you into buying a ZTE Optik, or would you rather stick to Wi-Fi only or contract-free tablets that cost more money in the short term, but less cash (and more freedom) in the long term?

YouTube Live now streaming select partners in real time

Not content with limiting its dominance in streaming uploaded videos, YouTube is now ready to take on competitors like Justin.TV and Ustream. The new YouTube Live service is being rolled out to select YouTube partners and will enable real-time broadcasting. In its official announcement, Google states that “The goal is to provide thousands of partners with the capability to live stream from their channels in the months ahead.”

You can check out live broadcasts at http://www.youtube.com/live, where you’ll also find a schedule of upcoming episodes from beta partners like Revision3 and Destructoid. You’re also able to subscribe to YouTube Live broadcasts — which will ensure you’re notified when a new episode is coming up.

ADzero Bamboo cellphone’s aiming for the giant Panda market (video)

This is the ADzero, a smartphone with a four-year old, organically grown bamboo unibody shell. It was designed by British student Kieron-Scott Woodhouse, a final-year product design student at Middlesex University. After his concept designs were spotted online, the 23 year old was approached to help design a real device. The Android-powered phone is built with an eye on sustainability, but isn’t scrimping on the technical: its packing a camera with a reportedly unique ring-flash that encircles the lens. It’ll be released in China and the UK shortly, with a focus on getting it into the hands of design-focused consumers. After the break we’ve got a clip of Mr. Woodhouse as he looks to carry on the tradition of world-class British designers.

US Cellular’s had its LTE network in the oven for quite some time, and we knew it was going to be showing up sometime next month. The missing part of the equation, however, was which devices would ring in the celebration. The carrier finally answered the mystery question: the first tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G, will be the inaugural device and is expected to arrive in March, while the Galaxy S Aviator 4G should be gracing store shelves sometime in April.

We don’t expect to see any surprises with the Galaxy Tab, but the Aviator definitely has us curious. At first glance, it appears to be the same design as the Droid Charge, and will offer a 4.3-inch WVGA Super AMOLED Plus display, run on Android 2.3.6 and come with a 8MP rear camera, front-facing cam and HDMI port. We’re hoping to get more specs for your enjoyment, but enjoy the press release in the meantime.
