If want to burn fat, build muscle, and get into the shape of your life there are definitely things that you should do, and things that you shouldn’t do. In this article, I am going to give you three dos and three don’ts that will lead to a fitter, thinner you.

Burn Fat, Build Muscle Don’t #1 – Extreme Diets are Extremely Bad

Don’t be fooled by the media hyped weight loss plans. They all claim that they have a brand new way of helping you to burn fat, build muscle, and get in shape. This makes for a great advertising campaign, but it is not good for you living a healthy life. Most of these weight loss plans will help you to lose weight temporarily, but they cannot be kept up. I have many aquaintences who have lost a lot of weight doing a low or no carb diet. Guess what happened once they started eating normal again? They put all the weight back on, and usually significantly more.

Burn Fat, Build Muscle Do #1 – Do Eat a Healthy, Balanced Diet

To burn fat, build muscle, and get the lean body that you want, you need to make sure that you are eating right. You need to get plenty of proteins and plenty of fiber, but make sure to avoid processed foods (the hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, and artificial trans fats in most processed foods are a definite diet killer). Carbs are acceptable, as long as they are balanced with fiber. Fruits are great because they are packed with fiber, but juices are not because they are just empty sugar and calories.

Burn Fat, Build Muscle Don’t #2 – Don’t Just Do Cardio

Despite all that you hear, cardio is not the most efficient way to start burning fat and building muscle. For a tone body, cardio is a waste of time. 30 to 40 minutes 3 days a week on a treadmill may burn a few calories, but it will not change your metabolism or your body’s hormonal response to exercise.

Burn Fat, Build Muscle Do #2 – Intensity Is Key

More intense interval training program is much more effective if you desire to burn fat, build muscle, and get into shape. Your heart works best with exercising at varying levels to help it to handle the stresses that life is sure to deliver, and interval training gives better results in much less time.

Burn Fat, Build Muscle Don’t #3 – Lay Off The Pills

If a weight loss program mentions any form of pill, stay away! Almost all (I say nearly because it is possible that there is a good one out there, but I don’t know of any) diet pills are a complete waste of money. Just like there is no true get rich quick scheme, there is no lose weight fast pill. Just trust me on this one, steer clear!

Burn Fat, Build Muscle Do #3 – Do Be Disciplined and Stick With It

Just like anything, if you want to succeed and start to burn fat, build muscle, and look great, effort is required. Select a weight loss program and don’t quit. If it is a good program, it will not promise momentary results, and you should not call for them. Stick with the program and as your lifestyle changes become a habit, your weight loss will speed up as well.
