Lose Weight in 2010 – a New Years Resolution

Every January, millions of people put fat loss on their 2010 resolution list. And every year, no more than 10% of men and women actually stay committed to their desired goals. Those are pretty bad odds if you are the one trying to lose weight.

Don’t give up on the dream! Losing weight doesn’t have to be impossible. Try these simple tips and see if they can work for you.

1. Be willing to Commit to your goal. What defines a commitment?  When you are committed to something, you will do whatever it takes, regardless of how you ‘feel’ about it. When you are committed, you are keeping your word with yourself. Prepare to be amazed at how your commitment will carry over into other areas of your life when you are truly commitment to your goal of losing 20 lbs.

2. Put down on paper the weight that you want to be. When you write down your goals you are increasing your chance for success. How badly do yo want to lose weight? Write it down.

3. Tell your friends. People who let their friends and family know about their goals are more likely to succeed. The important thing is to make sure that the ones who are aware are the ones who will support your journey.

4. Plan your attack. Have as detailed a plan as possible how you are going to succeed in your weight loss program. Every meal has to be planned. Know in advance how many times you will enter the gym and workout. You need to have a road map to your success. Otherwise you will fall to the wayside. Create a vision of how you want to look and just work backwards from there.

5. Have an Accountability Partner.  This is more than just making your loved ones aware. You are doing more just getting a ‘support’ group. You are working with someone who will hold you to your word! This is where a personal trainer can come in handy. Don’t have the money? Pick one friend or partner you can meet with once a week to stay on course.

6. Focus With Reminders. Now you are ready to go. You have your action plan and your have your support team.  You should know how you will be eating for the next few weeks. The next step is to make sure that you are always focused on your goals. One way to do that is to have reminders.  Post it stickers can do wonders. Use your reminders as a card in place them in your purse of Wallet. You can have them on your blackberry or cell phone. Do whatever works best for you.

7. Be True to Yourself! If you are making the same goal time and time again and you are not achieving your fat loss goal, then you have to ask yourself some tough questions. What will make next year different? You have to honestly ask your self if this goal is truly realistic. Maybe it’s a goal you think that you should have, but you are really doing it for someone else.
